Prop 36 Works! Rally

Clients, graduates and supporters of Proposition 36, California’s treatment-instead-of-incarceration law, will gather at the Capitol to celebrate seven years of the groundbreaking program’s success. Hundreds of rally participants will represent the over 84,000 people who have graduated from the program in the last seven years—and call attention to the over $1.5 billion saved by Prop 36 so far.

High Expectations: Are We Winning the War on Drugs?

The War on Drugs has been marching on since well before Richard Nixon coined the phrase in 1971, and it continues to be a battle – and a debate – for governments and policy makers around the world. The complexities surrounding the prohibition of drugs include a mixture of economic, health and wellness, and social and human rights issues. The argument is further fueled by morality, religion, race, law enforcement, and money. What has the War on Drugs accomplished in the thirty-seven years after Nixon’s declaration? Are there alternatives to the current drug laws and policies? Is this a war that has an end?

Recovery Ambassador Workshop

The Drug Policy Alliance is proud to sponsor this Recovery Ambassador Workshop. The event, organized by the Johnson Institute and local re-entry program Second Chance, is designed for people in recovery—but the training is valuable for all people who believe that substance dependence is a matter of individual and public health and that people struggling with current or past drug use should not be discriminated against.
