Harm Reduction Coalition Training: Pregnant and Parenting Drug Using Women - The Power of Image & Judgement in Our Work

The image of the pregnant and parenting drug-using woman has been used for many purposes in our society. Those images actually serve to hurt the women and families that many of us work to support. This can also cause us to carry our own prejudices that can hinder our own best practices and bring about personal stress in our places of employment. This workshop will examine those images, our own prejudices, and we will begin to look at some solutions to avoid buying into common myths and personal beliefs (sometimes from our own histories). By doing this examination, we can better assist women who are struggling with drug use while being pregnant and/or parenting. This workshop will also look at the broader policy implications that focus on supporting pregnant drug-using women instead of criminalizing or shaming their behavior.

Free Training: "Drug Resistence & HIV"

The widespread availability of antiretroviral therapy has made the fight against HIV a great deal easier. But like a horse without a rider, these medications can't go the distance alone. Working closely with their medical provider, clients/patients need to choose and monitor their treatment carefully. This is because of obstacles that can arise before and during treatment; with one of the most important being HIV drug resistance. Fortunately, there is a lot of knowledge and resources available to assist clients/patients with how to reduce the risk of drug resistance. This training will provide participants with an understanding of how drug resistance to HIV treatment medications develops and how to work with clients/patients who are experiencing drug resistance. By the end of this training, participants will be able to: define drug resistance; comprehend the importance of treatment adherence; and understand the impact of drug resistance on HIV treatment. CEU credits are available for this course.

Harm Reduction Action Group Meeting

We agreed that our first priority is to develop an “ideal world” harm reduction strategy for ourselves, and then reach out to community action groups in other centres across Canada for buy-in, and present the Harper Conservatives with OUR vision for a strategy that reduces harm – including the harm that comes from the enforcement of prohibition that just isn’t working. Please join us.

Free "American Drug War" Screening

Please join us for a screening of AMERICAN DRUG WAR. This will be a very special event! We will be dedicating the screening to Claudia Jensen - activist, pediatrician, and warrior against the powerful elite that fight so hard to keep marijuana illegal. ADW participant, friend and associate, Dr. Claudia Jensen lost her life to breast cancer on September 15, 2007, may she rest in peace. Special guest speakers include Judge Gray, T. Rodgers, Kevin Booth, and Joe Peitri.
