Since 1990, IHRAâs annual international harm reduction conferences (formerly known as the âInternational Conferences on the Reduction of Drug Related Harmâ) have grown in importance and become the main meeting point for all those interested in harm reduction around the world. Each year, the conference takes place in a different part of the world and covers the latest topics and debates from the field.
In April 2009, the conference will once again come to Thailand, taking place at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre in Bangkok from the 19th to the 23rd April 2009. As in previous years, the conference is being organised by the International Harm Reduction Association (IHRA) and the Conference Consortium.
For 2009, the conference theme will be âHarm Reduction and Human Rightsâ. As has been the case in the previous 19 events, the event will include high profile opening and closing ceremonies, plenary sessions, major sessions, symposia, workshops, training events, a film festival, poster exhibitions, exhibition areas, satellite meetings, social and networking events (including a conference party), and the annual IHRA award presentations.
The five-day event will be the key forum for the dissemination of ideas, research, projects and practice â both internationally and in the host region and country. The IHRA conferences have become must attend events for the harm reduction community and have helped to put harm reduction on the map and to coordinate advances, innovations, evidence and advocacy.
