Preview of Media Effort -- YOUR Participation Needed

<?php global $user; ?><?php if ($user->uid) { $user = user_load(array('uid'=>$user->uid));} ?><?php print $_GET['pid']; ?> This election year the country is focused on change. We do the same thing every day in the area of drug policy reform. By shining a bright light on the TRUTH, we are proving our case: prohibition does far more harm than good.

As part of our new Truth Campaign 08, over the coming weeks StoptheDrugWar.org will be unveiling a new effort for which we need your help. A brief preview for those of you who want to get started early: One of the problems we face in drug policy reform is that media outlets tend not to report the whole story in the drug war:

  • Articles about the latest drug bust that police decide to publicize rarely point out that the drug trade recovers almost immediately and no difference is made in the drug trade.
  • Articles about drug trade violence, or on overdoses or poisonings from adulterants in the black market drug supply, routinely refer to those as problems of "drugs" but almost never point out the role of drug prohibition in creating those problems.
Of course there are many problems in drug war reporting; those are just two on which we will be focusing in the immediate future. Where you can help with this is by contacting reporters in your local media -- their email addresses are often available on the media outlets' web sites -- suggesting they ask certain relevant questions or make certain points, and cc'ing us when you do. We'll follow up with them, and with your help build the relationships with media that will get them talking to drug reformers for their stories, and not just drug warriors or government spokespeople. Check back with StoptheDrugWar.org soon for resources you can use to work together with us to transform media coverage of drug policy and get out the TRUTH. - Dave <?php /** * This php snippet displays content of a specified type, with teasers * * To change the type of content listed, change the $content_type. * * Works with drupal 4.6 */ $content_type = 'content-action_alerts'; print '' .
