KAREN TANDY: If you filled the stadium at FedEx Field, which happens to be the largest football stadium in the NFL, if you filled that will all of the teenagers who are no longer using drugs, you’d have to fill that stadium nine times. Empty it, and refill it. [ThinkProgress]What on earth is that supposed to mean? In fairness, it must be excruciatingly difficult to think of nice things to say about Alberto Gonzales. But this is just weird.
I think she's trying to say that Gonzales stopped lots of teenagers from doing drugs, but I'm sure he was way too busy rationalizing torture and perjuring himself to do that. Personally, just thinking about Alberto Gonzales and his shameful legacy makes me want a drink.
Ironic Anecdotal Afterthought: I actually witnessed FedEx Field filled with teenagers once at a rock festival. It smelled like pot everywhere. Cypress Hill performed. Karen Tandy and Alberto Gonzales were nowhere to be seen, fortunately.

Numbers Again
OK. I looked up the numbers on DEA Director Karen Tandy’s congrats to Alberto Gonzalez.
FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskins in Landover, MD, has a seating capacity of 91,665. Filling and emptying the stadium nine times gives a total of 824,985 people, allegedly the number of teenagers Gonzalez is claimed by Karen Tandy to have saved from certain destruction by drugs, if that is what she meant.
Numbers from the ONDCP’s 2001 Strategy Report claims that every day 4,800 people under the age of 18 try marijuana for the first time—or 1,752,000 per year (1,741,000 cited). There were also supposedly 757,000 new users of psychedelics, 590,000 new users of Ecstasy, and 353,000 new users of cocaine in 2001.
Given the steady rates of drug use in the United States since 2001, during Gonzalez’s brief and ugly two-year reign as AG from 2005 to 2007, we can surmise similar numbers were prevalent. That means about 412,500 people per year benefited from Alberto Gonzalez’s immense influence, whatever that might be, which gives a “mission accomplished” rate weighed against new marijuana use of roughly 23.5-percent.
I call that a failure. Gonzalez’s success rate in the drug war is second only to his credibility before a congressional committee.

Empty Stadium
The stadium is empty because the kids are in prison.
