The Stem Cell Debate and the drug war.

I was just educated in the recent attempts to legalize the use of stem cells in spinal cord research. GWB used a presidential veto to undermine the will of both the Congress and the Senate. A classic example of dogma over knowledge and research. Bush, who knows nothing about science or stem cells, is acting on advice from either his personal conversations with God or from his religious advisers. Not a PhD in medicine among them. The drug war has its roots in insane politicians (Mackenzie-King) and their racist leanings (the law was only to affect the Chinese). From this bitter root grew the current Canadian drug laws and I'm sure it was cited during any debate for the Harrison act. That little beauty was a direct result of Southern desire to control slaves and later on extended to control slaves that were now free. If you want a real eye opener look up Harry Anslinger and the DEA. LSD laws happened because Art Linkletter's daughter did some and thought she could fly. Nixon brought the start of the drug war as we know it in an attempt to cut down on drug use in Viet Nam at the same time that Air America and the CIA were smuggling heroin into the states. Stem Cells and drug war politics are victims of ignorance and blind faith over the scientific method, research and years of collected data. Unfortunately, it's so much easier to listen to the talk shows and read scurrilous and false reports on drugs and addiction than it is to do a little research. Current attempts to criminalize more plants are just further extensions of people with controlling natures trying to out do one another. It's almost spring. Get those seeds ready and plant as many banned substances as you can.
