I wasn't terrified. And now, I am a forcibly retired pain management doctor. They could not get me on the pain management alone (I WAS following the rules!!). They do an Al Capone and get me on getting involved with a patient, who became enamored with me (and, eventually, I with her!)! We are now married! But, I did admit to emotional adultery (no physical stuff prior to that). It cost me my license when I could not afford the $8,000 price tag to go to, a facility of the medical board's request , to get an evaluation for "boundaries issues" . Heck, I was the one that was stalked!
But, getting back to the subject. Doctors are getting more afraid! And, most are so ignorant, when it comes to the difference between addiction and dependence, that the literature is awash with articles pushing for the "cure" of chronic pain patients "dependent" on their medication. They just need continued treatment! Not a CURE!!!! As long as the shrinks don't know the difference, people are going to be treated like dirt and, indirectly, tortured with their untreated pain. Cancer patients are seeing trouble getting their pain treated in the end stage of life, still! I don't trust what most doctors have to say, now-a-days!

Because they either don't give a damn, or they are scared to end up like me. Permanently unemployed! Great testimony after 16 years of post high school education! Government in action!
