Congress Just Says No to Anti-Drug Propaganda

It looks like Congress will be giving Drug Czar John Walters a big lump of coal for Christmas this year. A major congressional spending bill slashes funding for anti-drug advertising down to $60 million for next year, a 40% reduction from this year's $99 million. Try as he might to spin the failure of his advertising campaign, the Drug Czar is just going to have to face facts: everyone knows the ads don't work and Congress is on pace to kill the program entirely within a few years.

For those who've been paying attention, it comes as no surprise that Congress is defunding the Drug Czar's propaganda campaign. A report by the Government Accountability Office not only found that the ads are ineffective, but actually concluded that kids who saw them were slightly more likely to try drugs!

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do to make the Drug Czar understand that his ads are crap. Literally, the simple act of criticizing the ads actually makes him think they're working. Look what he said about this just last week:
I find it somewhat amusing that pro-pot activists lobby every year to cut funding for this program - they must be worried that it's working too well!
Really? So according to the Drug Czar, anyone who opposes the ads is a pro-pot activist who is afraid that they work too well. But in real life, the ad budget is getting torn to shreds by the U.S. Congress because they know the program sucks.

New TV ad...

Proposal... narrator says, "this is the WoDs",camera shows black hole... then says," this is your taxes", camera shows money thrown down black hole. Wonder how Mr.Czar would spin this? Maybe the next Prez will just let the ONDCP expire. Certainly the office space could be put to better use.

60 Million Dollar Lump Of Coal

With all due respect, nice spin, but if someone gave me a "lump of coal" worth $60,000,000, I wouldn't consider that Congress saying "No", regardless of the budget decrease.

Does anyone know where exactly that 60 million goes (more or less the full 120-130 million originally requested)?

A production budget would eat up some of it, but how much? A majority?

Are the mainstream distribution channels (T.V. networks, magazines, etc.) receiving any of it?

How about the advertising industry? Is that industry also benefiting from the "goodwill" associated with their anti-illicit-drug stance?

I don't know the answer to any of it, but I'm guessing that the 60 million and perceived goodwill is preventing the mainstream media from heavily reporting the severe corruption that is the Controlled Substances Act, since it can't possibly be the lack of being newsworthy.

Can anyone change that guess into fact?

Projecting our message via the mainstream spotlight is critical towards the rapid discrediting of the WoD, its supporters, and most importantly, the legal foundation that is the CSA.

Ad Industry Addicted to Fascism

I agree entirely with the above comment. 60 million bucks for a budget item that defames us all is not a victory, its a defeat. What can one do with 60 million?

In the 1980's I researched the 'Partnership for a Drug-Free America', the idiots that brought us 'This is Your Brain on Drugs' adds with the broken eggs....They were doing business in Florida then, but were not incorporated in the State, according to the Div. of Corporations, Dept. of State, State of Florida, the agency of the State of Florida which registers corporations. That made it impossible to sue the idiots in the State court system. It turned out that they ARE a bunch of ad agencies who 'donate' ads against drug use.
So what we have here is actually a tax issue; these agencies are getting money from the DEA to run ads, but are not reporting it as taxable income. They're 'donating' the ad space and copy writing, and photos, etc. courtesy of the Federal government who is supposed to be collecting taxes from them.
And are these not 'political donations' in the sense of elections? Are these expenditures and donations being reported to the Federal and State electoral agencies? NO!!! But the ARE influencing the electorate to vote for pro-fascist, pro-prohibitionist candidates. 60 mill buys a lot of ad space, and a lot of Congressional seats.

We need to file a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the DEA to find out about how this whole scheme works. Among others who donate to the Partnership for a Drug Free America is Bayer Drugs, a foreign (German) super-sized pharma firm that is marketing Sativex, which is nothing more than hash oil pumped into inhalers and sold as super expensive medicines in other countries, and being tested right now in the USA. Dr. Andrea Barthwell, who previously in her sorry career spent time as a DEA policy agent running around the country on the taxpayer dollar lecturing state legislatures about the dangers of legal cannabis as medicine. She now works for GW Corp., the makers of Sativex, who license its distribution to Bayer.
Are the Bayer donations reported as electoral donations by a foreign corporation to US policymakers? Bayer previously made Xylon, the gas used to annihilate Nazi victims in World War II. Are they and the DEA registered as agents of a foreign power?
Meanwhile, the DEA continues to raid cannabis dispensaries in cannabis -medicine-legal States, and to threaten to jail sick and dying people who could use cannabis as a cure, because that way they can maintain that cannabis has no medicinal benefit and thus jack up jail sentences for the cannabis consumers they catch, as provided by the current Controlled Substances Act.
We have a murderous government, aided and abetted by a fascist advertising industry working for alien corporations to jail and kill us. I'm disgusted to be an American.

Don't forget pfizer

Remember they took our Constitutional property rights all the way to the supreme court and defeated them. Oddly enough in a case called "Kilo".

Drug companies have a lot of power in this country via Bush, German Shepherds,Bayer, Pfizer...it's not a coincidence people. Nazis still live.

Anti Meth Ads

In Illinois and around Chicago there has been a tremendous increase in the amount of anti meth ads just in the past year. I am not sure if the state or the feds or both are funding the ads but they are very prevalent. Full page ads in the Chicago Tribune plus some crazy ads during the evening news are really saturating the area with a new meth epidemic scare. One ad even has a teenager saying she "wished her car rolled over and she became paralyzed, instead she went to the party, tried meth and became addicted" blatantly ruining her life. So I am guessing at least some of the $60 million will be spent on promoting the new meth epidemic, a wonderful propaganda technique to keep funding and jobs for the WoD.

Anti-drug propaganda

I personally am against the use of drugs such as coke, crack, speed and heroin, however, the fact remains that users of such drugs are merely trying to change how they feel. There is no criminality in what they are attempting upon theirselves although it may be deemed stupid, irresponsible, ill-advised, ignorant, etc. The true crime is the cruel and unusual punishment inflicted upon them, yet this fact seems to be buried. If an actual crime is committed (such as robbery, battery, etc.) then prosecute the crime. For twenty-first century enlightenment, our governance and judiciary still seems rooted in the dark ages (ala the inquisition), with many lives rotting needlessly (the bulk of prisoners are drug war casualties).

I don't know...

I actually like those anti-marijuana drug ads though. Those are WAY too funny!

just give it time

Congress is finally getting the picture. I see the Drug Czar's office gone within ten years.

Partnership for Tyranny

There are two new billboards that have been erected on county roads near my home. They say "call 1-800-TIPS for any suspicious activity". The call will go to the county sheriffs office. At the bottom of the board it says, "paid for by Partnership for Drug-free America".Stalinist America here we go.Turn your neighbors in for free-dom.And I thought Stalin was anti - Czarist. Some drugs FREE is ludicrous. Sativex is unnecessary in a free society.Hemp on schedule 1 and synthetic Marinol on schedule 3 is also ludicrous. Sativex will make schedule 3 no doubt. Liberty Free America no doubt.

Crack, crank or change

I’m writing this letter to give you and hopefully others my views, thoughts and options on this drug and others I’ve seen over the years as an observer and user. A little history about me I’m a male in my late forties, born in D.C. grew up and live in P.G. County my whole life. Went to public schools during the bussing integration mess/ riots, a story in its self. I graduated high school, had enough of school and went right to work, after being out of school for about five years I went to night school at a community college and I’ve never stopped since taking all kinds of classes (criminal justice, political sciences) in all areas its like a hobby. I also love art, music and history. I’ve work full time in this area and carry many responsibilities to this day. O.k. I first seen and smoked marijuana in the sixth grade through high school it made me feel good, creative and helped me cope with the stressful social issues of the public school systems at the times. Older kids were also doing this plus L.S.D. the only drugs known to me at the time. The Vietnam War had changed people’s ways of thinking. I knew and would party with older kids and vets. I looked up to these people. I didn’t really drink till I got out of high school. Ronald Regan became president, a great man and leader, but sad to say to this day to me and many others and more will agree after reading this letter he indirectly with out knowing one action would cause a catastrophe called crack. I also voted for him and still vote today I’m probably the 1 out of 20 my age that do. When he became president he declared a war on drugs having done or putting just roomers out about the spraying of chemicals on the plant called Parraquate (talk about chemical Ali). This was a man who in his early days smoked non filtered cigarettes drank whisky and did all this in front of cameras for commercial ads getting paid and working with a monkey. This changed the direction that illegal drugs will take for ever. Cocaine enters the drug scene easier to import distribute smaller in size and more money. I had stopped getting high and took to drinking after work with friends and it was legal and busted for drinking and driving was basically rare, plus cops, lawyers and judges were all doing it, I witnessed them first hand. After a while I would snort a line or to. But in D.C. they started to cook it, crack, I heard about it but never really seen it, just powder cocaine form. Computer programmers liked crack at work because it kept them awake and concentrated on their work. I started to see people selling crack at corners, outside bars I would drink in. It was like every where you went or looked. I had heard of some of my friends from school getting hooked on it and there personal down falls from prison, loss of homes and families or worse death. One night at a bar a dealer ask if I wanted some, hey you will get a great high plus it was basically the only drug around and cheap. I tried it and it is a very addictive drug, it would make you fiend for more, pump your heart rate up and drains your pockets by the end of the evening your broke not so cheap. I never got in to it but would notice friends and others at the bars get really taken down, I asked a young girl why are you smoking this she said because of the high, I asked why not smoke some weed instead, I said that’s, what we did in my day and it did nothing like what crack does to you (it’s not addictive). She stated she had smoke it but its not really around, plus the smell, and it stays in your blood system for 30 days and in cocaine is only about 3 if your job does drug testing plus its easy to hide or swallow if need be, she was a nice girl from a nice family. That night when I left the bar I noticed as I was getting into my car she was performing oral sex on the local crack dealer in his car I’M sure to help pay for her habit. Girls of all ages would turn tricks for hits, I hated to see this happen to nice people, crack does make people do things they would not normally do, I would read in local papers about young people steeling and robbing also. What a terrible drug, now I watch and read about meth which is on the rise and easy to make from house hold goods which will create another whole new epidemic I’m sure, I’m even hearing of heroine on the rise again and kids are experimenting in quest for the perfect drug and high by internet recipes of pills, sprays and other stuff any thing and every thing to get high. In the sixties and seventies violence, murder and crime was very, very low compared to what it is today and life was happier and better in the good old days. Our system is pretty hypicritial through the years I have seen Judges, lawyers and cops drink at local bars and f.o.p. lodges and drive home. Some take pills (steroids, muscle relaxers, pain killers valiums etc.) drink and they get buzzed and feel good and know, no illegal urine tests to fail. During the years of my life I have gotten high, drank and done lines with people of all walks of life, that will surprise you some are thieves in and out of jail some are now in law enforcement, home security, governmental jobs, farmers, construction jobs, commercial jobs, retail stores, the armed services on most levels, lawyers , politicians, doctors and pilots, basically all walks of life they hold good jobs. and now some still get high some way and some don’t, But most I’ve met and have partied with or heard from others that talk are taxing paying hard working people and have good morals, very few people in this country can honestly say they didn’t inhale. I smoke a little weed ounce in a while now and again to relax me it also helps me be creative in my art and music, I’ve had some medical conditions also that it helps me with better than the pills the doctor gives me I don’t really drink that much any more than a beer ounce in a while. I still work and go to night school.. So in my experience in life in and around marijuana it should be legalized like alcohol with restrictions, taxes, and then get tougher on the hard manufactured (meth, crack heroin etc.) stuff. Marijuana is not manufactured as some laws say. It is completely naturally grown in the ground with sunlight (just like a tomato or cucumber plant etc.) then hung and dried( talk about going green), less processing than a cigarette that has nicotine in it to keep some people addicted so some big corporations get rich and pay off politicians. Congress seems to ignore the legalization of the plant, I guess when your an old fuddy duddy live in a glass house your not in touch with reality and social issues that most people see on the streets. If a man was to run for president with an agenda of legalization he would probably win by a land side, you will see voter registration increase and an out come of voter participation never seen before in the history of this country. Marijuana doesn’t cause violence or hangovers such as alcohol. Through out history America has had a lot of great citizens indulged they say George Washington and Thomas Jefferson would grow this plant on the plantation for tea or medical purposes, Indians and during the 20’s to 40’s it was prescribed by doctors for lung problems athesma t.b etc. most people that grew up in the sixties and seventies got high even though they deny Bill and Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Barrack Obama was man enough to admit to doing cocaine, Nancy Pelosi summer breaks in Ocean city at a young age, Steny Hoyer and his all night partying, so drunk the next morning he could hardly walk in the seven eleven for coffee with out falling, and eyes red as blood, Yale, Berkley, U.C.L.A. and Harvard graduates, George Bush our president is said to have done lines and drank in the guard and after that for a period of time. Most of the president’s children have smoked right in the white house. We have a lot of celebrities that get high Willie Nelson (caught with a pound) George Clooney, Sean Penn, Jazz, rock and rap musicians, actors etc. the list goes on. People of all ages all the way up in there seventies. The real criminals are getting rich just like the days of probation, it did not work. Put your foot down vote, compromise, negotiate end the twenty year war, crack kills, unite not divide, Legalize not criminalize. As you can see it is the American way, from all houses in all states to even the almighty white house. So don’t forget how crack got here, Ronald Reagan’s (war on drugs), C.I.A conspirators and pay offs (Ollie North), Marion Berry, congress and lobbyist. So do you want Washington to stay noted as the District of Crack? Don’t create a worser drug than crack, Hypitcritical law maker’s cops, lawyers, judges, congress the list goes on and on, most people partied in school and colleges. Because some people had thought weed was so bad it cost tax payers billions and billions, and many a lives, so, just vote yes and end the mess. I ask why there has never been a survey box to check when we vote. We the people and lets see the real percentages to legalize. Papers and internet surveys, There’s just so much you get the idea, I’ll write one of the best selling books one day. And don’t forget the vets of this war if they want to catch a buzz when they get home let them they are hero’s who sacrificed there lives for are freedom, puff, puff, pass!
