Big announcement on the news tonite.It seems Vancouver has become a major distribution point for the international drug trade.We're a major manufacturer of meth and ecstacy as well.The things you here on the news.An article in the Georgia Straight has some news that comes as a surprise to no-one that's spent five mins. on the street.It seems the foster care program is the source of a major chunk of our homeless.Within 2.5 years of leaving care at 19,85% had been charged with a crime,38% had been diagnosed with depression and 41% used marijuana a few times a week.Just 21% graduate from high school.The government appointed a child advocate a few years back in response to a rash of deaths in care.Her scathing report was met with the usual protestations of innocence followed by a cut in her operating budget.More than half of the victims in the Picton murder cases were from the child care system.With record surpluses and a foster care and child protection system in disarray you'd think there'd be some action.All we get is excuses.I guess we can count our blessings that the same government that's screwing up our children so badly is the same bunch that are fighting the drug war.The last thing I want is for more kids to be using dope and screwing up their lives.On the other hand,this bunch are no threat to the supply of decent dope on the street.As long as they insist on pursuing this insane drug war,the only control of the drug supply will continue to be in the hands of organized crime.What is so difficult about the truth of this that our politicians can't grasp it?
