IPS's Drug Policy Video and Speaker Series -- Drug War 101: An Introduction to the "War on Drugs"

Please join us for Part I of Intersections in the War on Drugs, A FREE Summer Video and Speaker Series -- Drug War 101: An Introduction to the "War on Drugs" VIDEO: War on Drugs, A War on Ourselves This ABC News documentary with John Stossel is one of the most provocative examinations of the "War on Drugs" ever aired on network television. This program explores the consequences of drug prohibition at home and abroad and concludes with alternative approaches to drug control. Filmed in the U.S., Colombia and the Netherlands, this documentary serves as the perfect introduction to this summer's drug policy film series. SPEAKER: Sanho Tree, Institute for Policy Studies Sanho Tree is a Fellow and Director of the Drug Policy Project at the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, DC. The project works to end the domestic and international "War on Drugs" and replace it with policies that promote public health and safety as well as alternatives to the failed prohibitionist model. The intersection of race and poverty in the drug war is at the heart of the project's work. In recent years the project has focused on the attendant "collateral damage" caused by the US exporting its drug war to Colombia, Bolivia and Afghanistan. Establishing humane and sustainable alternatives to the drug war fits into the IPS mandate as one of the major contemporary social justice issues of our time.
