Harm Reduction Therapy: An Integrated Treatment for Trauma, Substance Abuse, and Mental Illness

It is presented by the Association for Harm Reduction Therapy in partnership with the Harm Reduction Therapy Center and the Harm Reduction Therapy and Training Associates. Recent natural disasters in the Gulf Coast region have undoubtedly led to increased suffering, emotional distress, and the overuse of alcohol and other drugs. As time goes by without adequate relief from these traumas, psychiatric symptoms develop and worsen. Mental health and substance abuse treatment providers have suffered their own losses, including dislocation from their work. Fewer resources stretch what was already a scarcity of health care providers. The Association for Harm Reduction Therapy is offering this day-long training specially designed to address these issues, and to offer support and consultation to providers throughout the Gulf Coast region. Harm Reduction Therapy (HRT) aims to reduce emotional, physical, and family harms that can be caused by excessive use of alcohol and other drugs, particularly especially when that use is in response to trauma.
